CADENCE PERFORMING ARTS
Cadence Performing Arts is the umbrella organisation for a number of music and movement performance programmes in the South of England.
“The mission of Cadence Performing Arts is to further the education and growth of young people through participation in high-caliber performing arts programs that promote teamwork and discipline, develop leadership skills, and enhance self-esteem.”
Established in 1991 as the Cadence Drum & Bugle Corps, which is our primary program, we have steadily grown to three groups currently operating which offer low cost music and performance opportunities including attending national competitions within the British Youth Band Association and the Drum Corps United Kingdom.
As well as competitions all our groups perform at public events such as carnivals, fetes, bonfire parades and county shows. Cadence Drum & Bugle Corps have also been lucky enough to perform on a number of films, commercials and TV shows such as Celebrity Juice on ITV2.
We currently offer educational and performance opportunities to over 150 young people primarily in the Surrey and Hampshire area although many of our members travel from as far afield as Bristol and Brighton.
A majority of our activities are, by their very nature, competitive. Each individual organization is responsible for developing and assimilating our philosophy to its members, staff, volunteers and parents, in the Cadence Performing Arts organisations. The philosophy of our units as competitive organisations is the sole responsibility of the upper management.
Our philosophy, simply stated, is to be as competitive as possible on our arena. Utilizing our Mission Statement as our foundation, through providing our membership with a quality program and a staff of skilled designers and instructors, competitive success will be a natural by-product of our endeavors.
We define “winning” as doing the best possible job, both on AND off the field of competition. Competition can indeed be an ugly experience unless we keep in mind just who we are here for our members. In the face of our competitive battles, we expect our staff to never let their egos and personal goals supersede the goals of our organization.
Full details of our three groups can be found below including contact details for membership or booking inquiries.
Oracle Winter Guard
Cadence Performing Arts are pleased to be in partnership with Oracle Winterguard based in Crawley, East Sussex.
Winterguard is an indoor performance activity under the WGUK banner where groups of young people perform shows combining dance and group manoeuvring with the use of flags and other hand held equipment all performed to pre-recorded music. It’s something that sits alongside but between majorettes, twirlers and rhythmic gymnastics and has to be seen to be believed!
Each year Oracle prepare a new show based on a concept, approximately 4 to 5 minutes in length, which is refined throughout the winter. Shows are performed on arenas and stages at different leisure centres and performance spaces across the UK and Europe. Shows are judged in various movement and visual categories, or “captions”. The musical repertoire can vary widely depending on the current show concept.
Many members from Cadence Drum & Bugle Corps compete as part of Oracle during the Winter months with a number of Oracle members joining us for Summer activities. We are proud to be associated with the Oracle organisation.
